Why do paper mills need antifoam Without eliminating foam, quality is difficult to guarantee.

18-07-2026

In the paper mill production process, antifoam play a crucial role. So why do paper mills need antifoam? These seemingly insignificant little bubbles are actually veritable "invisible killers" on the paper production line.

Pulp contains a large amount of plant fiber, which easily generates a lot of foam during mixing and cooking. If left untreated, the foam will accumulate, severely impacting production efficiency. Foam occupies equipment space, reducing actual production capacity, extending production time, and increasing costs.

Foam can cause significant damage to paper quality. Excessive foam can lead to problems such as holes and uneven thickness in the paper, reducing its strength and smoothness. Such paper lacks competitiveness in the market and struggles to meet customer demands. Even excessive foam can affect the normal operation of equipment, increasing maintenance costs and downtime.

Choosing the right antifoam is crucial, as it determines whether a paper mill can operate stably, meet environmental protection requirements, and effectively improve production efficiency and quality.

1. Paper Pulping Antifoam

The pulping environment is characterized by high temperature, strong alkali, and high shear force, resulting in hard and stubborn foam. Surface-active substances such as lignin and resin acids are released in large quantities during black liquor washing, screening, and bleaching, forming a stable foam system. Uncontrollable foam leads to pulp overflow, reduced washing efficiency, and compromised bleaching effects, resulting in a host of problems.

RISE Paper Pulping Antifoam is specifically designed for this purpose. This type of papermaking defoamer is primarily based on silicone emulsions. Compatible antifoam product models: AF-1P35, AF-7550, AF-1130.

Product Features:

  • Dual-action defoaming and foam suppression, quickly eliminates existing foam, and persistently inhibits the formation of new foam; does not gel even after prolonged storage.

  • Easy to Use: Recommended addition amount is only 0.05%-0.1%, effectively saving costs.

2. Paper Making Antifoam

Entering the papermaking section, the battleground shifts to the white water circulation system. The residual surfactants, fine fibers, sizing agents, retention aids, and other substances in the white water work together to create a more complex foam system. Decreased dewatering efficiency in the wire section, pinholes and spots on the paper surface, and even paper breaks and machine shutdowns—this section requires antifoam that not only quickly break bubbles but also possess excellent foam suppression and degassing properties.

RISE papermaking antifoam is specially developed for white water systems. Compatible defoamer models: AF-2200, AF-3030

Product Features:

  • Foam Control and No Re-foaming: Quickly eliminates foam on the surface of the white water tank and storage tank, continuously controlling foam and reducing pinholes and paper breaks.

  • Environmentally Friendly: NP and APEO free, stable operation at 25℃-45℃.

  • Can be diluted with water.

3. Sewage Water Treatment Antifoam

RISE paper sewage water treatment antifoam is a premium environmental protection additive engineered for the wastewater treatment systems. Papermaking effluent contains high levels of organic matter and surfactants, leading to severe foaming during aeration and biological treatment stages. This defoamer rapidly spreads across the water surface, breaking down stubborn foam layers and preventing overflow. It is formulated to be safe for biological systems, ensuring that it does not harm the active sludge or beneficial bacteria essential for wastewater purification.

Compatible defoamer models: AF-707E、AF-2434、AF-3030
